You can install BriefCatch Preview and the production version of BriefCatch open either while editing a document. Please keep these things in mind:

  • BriefCatch Preview may include bugs, delays and other frustrations as we continuously improve your experience.
  • BriefCatch Preview observes the same security, authentication and permissions as primary BriefCatch products.
  • BriefCatch Preview may not be available for your organization depending on configuration by your administrator.

How do I customize BriefCatch 4 suggestions based on my writing objective?

Use the pull-down to customize BriefCatch based on whether you’re writing something Objective, or Persuasive, or an Opinion or a Contract. If you select “All” you’ll see our most accepted general suggestions.

How can I focus my suggestions?

BriefCatch 4 suggestions span four categories: Style, Precision, Proofing and Citations. You can filter your suggestions on or or more of those categories by clicking in the Category Summary. The summary also shows your progress in each category.

How does BriefCatch use Generative AI?

BriefCatch 4 uses Generative AI to provide two features:

  • BriefChat, a conversational legal writing expert, and
  • Advanced Citation Proofing, which finds and corrects common Bluebooking errors

To learn more about how we use GenAI and how we safeguard your information, read this guide.

How can I turn off in-line highlighting in my document?

By default, BriefCatch 4 underlines the passages in your document that have suggestions available. The color of the underlining matches the color of the suggestion category.

If you prefer not to see highlighting in your document, open the Settings Tab and deactivate highlighting with the toggle.

When you are viewing a suggestion card, you will always see text highlighting for the suggestion, even if this setting is off for all other suggestions.

What is BriefChat and how do I use it?

BriefChat is a conversational assistant that provides expert advice on legal writing based on the writings of BriefCatch’s founder, Ross Guberman.

To use BriefChat, open the BriefChat tab and pose your question, or choose a sample question.

Why don’t I see the BriefChat tab?

Your organization needs to activate BriefChat before it will appear in BriefCatch 4. If you do not see the BriefChat tab, check with your administrator or contact us at help@briefcatch.com.

Can BriefChat edit my document for me?

Not yet, but we’re working on it. For now, BriefChat is not configured to edit documents or language you may upload in your prompt.

What is Express Editing and how do I use it?

Sometimes you might want to see all of your BriefCatch suggestions already made in your document, with the edits shown as tracked changes.

When you use Express Editing, keep these things in mind:

  • Express editing only makes the edits that are shown in your suggestion card list, after applying any style or filter selections.
  • BriefCatch may select one of several suggested edits when applying Express Editing.

How do I ignore a suggestion?

When a suggestion is not pertinent, you can remove the suggestion by clicking on Ignore.

If you want to always ignore this kind of suggestion, use the pull down and select, Ignore always.

What is Advanced Citation Proofing?

When enabled at your option, BriefChat 4 uses specially configured AI to find and correct common Bluebook errors. You can see these suggestions by selecting the Citation category.
