Low or out of credits

Only RealityCheck uses AI credits. If your balance runs low or reaches zero, everything else in BriefCatch keeps working: uploading, document review, suggestions, citation-format corrections, exports, and reports.

Checking your balance

  • Everyone sees the remaining balance in the header of the BriefCatch online app.
  • Owners and admins also see the balance, its status, and a ledger of every charge on the Usage & Credits screen.

When the balance counts as low

  • The first low warning appears when 75% of your monthly credits are used, and a second at 90%.
  • Admins can set their own low-balance level.
  • Email alerts are coming soon. For now, warnings appear in the app.

What members see

  • Running low: once 75% of the monthly credits are used, the RealityCheck panel shows how many credits are left and suggests asking your admin if you need more.
  • Out of credits: the panel says "Your organization is out of RealityCheck credits. Ask your admin to add more." and a new check can't be started.
  • At a personal cap: the panel says "You've reached your RealityCheck credit limit for this period. Ask your admin to raise it."
  • Ask your admin: the button under these messages emails your organization's owners and admins.

What to do next

On an Individual plan: buy a top-up, or wait for your next monthly credits.

A member of a team: use Ask your admin.

An owner or admin: buy a top-up, check the ledger on Usage & Credits to see where credits went, or raise or remove a member's cap.

Enterprise and court accounts: contact your account management team.

Troubleshooting

  • RealityCheck won't start, but the balance shows credits: check that RealityCheck is included in your license.
  • A top-up hasn't appeared: refresh before trying again, because buying twice charges twice.
  • "Top up unavailable": purchases are paused for a short time during a payment provider issue. Try again later.
