Software Updates

BriefCatch Standalone Enterprise Onboarding Guide

We release updates to BriefCatch Standalone several times per year, typically when we introduce new writing suggestions, enhanced examples, or other feature improvements. Updates to Standalone are designed to bring meaningful enhancements based on user feedback and ongoing improvement of our rules and algorithms.

If you encounter a bug or have feedback to share, we welcome your input. Please contact your customer success representative or email our support team.

How to Update

Updates are not automated in Standalone. When a new major release is available, we'll notify you by email and make the latest installer accessible in the BriefCatch Portal, under the BriefCatch Standalone tab.

IT administrators or designated users can then download and distribute the updated installer within your organization.

Please Note: Make sure to use the same installer when updating. If you installed using our machine installer (BCMSSetupLM.msi) you must use the same installer to avoid any potential conflicts.

If you're unsure, or for help determining which installer you should use, see Which installer was used to install BriefCatch Standalone?

To update, simply reinstall or redeploy the installer to your users on top of the existing version. There's no need to uninstall the previous installation. All user settings and license files will remain intact unless you choose to include a new license file during the update process.

This manual update approach ensures that your organization maintains full control over deployment timing and version management.

For more information on installing or updating, see our Deployment & Installation section.

Update Notification

When we release a new version of BriefCatch Standalone, a notification appears in under the BriefCatch S tab in the Word ribbon.

This notification can be disabled for your users by using the DISABLEAUTOUPDATE parameter when deploying the BriefCatch Standalone software. If you've already deployed the software, it can also be disabled by adding the noAutoUpdate file to the bcms directory.

See Disabling update notifications for users for more details.
