Centralized Deployment Recommendations

Microsoft recommends using Integrated Apps via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to deploy Office Add-ins. This deployment method requires Exchange Online, as outlined in Microsoft’s Centralized Deployment documentation.

Note: Outlook add-ins require an Exchange account. On-premises Exchange accounts are not supported.

Centralized Deployment via 365 Admin Center

BriefCatch for Outlook should be deployed to your users via the Microsoft 365 admin center under Integrated apps.

Within the 365 admin center, click on Settings, then Integrated apps. Under the Integrated apps section, click on Get apps.

Note: If this is the first time you’re deploying the app, we recommend doing a test deployment to yourself, IT/admins, or a small group of users, prior to deploying to your entire organization.

After choosing who to deploy to, click Next. You will then have to click on Accept permissions to ensure the app permissions are granted for your users.

Please Note: Centrally deployed apps will usually show up for your users within minutes or hours. But in some cases it can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate for all users.

If the BriefCatch for Outlook app still isn’t appearing for your users after 72 hours, please reference Add-in not showing up after deployment.

Modifying Deployment Options

Once successfully deployed, BriefCatch for Outlook will show under your list of Deployed apps within Integrated apps. If you need to add or adjust the users or groups, click on BriefCatch for Outlook to open the deployment settings.

The Overview tab will show general information, such as status and assigned users. Click on the Users tab to modify or assign additional users or groups, or to deploy to your entire organization.

Note: If BriefCatch for Outlook was deployed to a group, you can add more users to that group at any time, and the add-in will be deployed to them automatically. You can also switch the deployment scope to entire organization if you want all users to receive the add-in.

Additional Centralized Deployment Information

The below articles from Microsoft explain what Office Add-ins are and provide information on how to deploy Office Add-ins via the 365 admin center, along with best practices:

Admin Consent & Advanced Permissions

In most cases, deploying BriefCatch (Word or Outlook) does not require any additional action to grant permissions. Consent is typically handled automatically during the initial installation. However, for organizations with stricter Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) policies, an administrator may need to manually grant consent to enable full functionality, including Microsoft Single Sign-On (SSO).

If users are unable to log in or load the add-in, verify whether admin consent has been granted for the BriefCatch application.

To check or grant consent:

  1. In Microsoft Entra / Azure Active Directory, go to Enterprise Applications.
  2. Select BriefCatch for Outlook from the list.
  3. In the left-hand menu, click Security > Permissions.
  4. Click “Grant admin consent for briefcatch.com” to approve the required permissions for all users.

For full details, refer to Microsoft's guide: Grant tenant-wide admin consent in Enterprise apps pane

Required Permissions

The following Microsoft permissions are required for BriefCatch for Outlook to operate:

  • User.Read
  • profile
  • openid
  • email

These permissions allow secure Microsoft SSO sign-in and ensure a consistent experience across all BriefCatch products. They are usually granted automatically upon deployment, but some configurations may require manual admin consent as outlined above.

User Self Installation

Some organizations may prefer that users install BriefCatch for Outlook manually through the AppSource store. This requires that your users have permission to access and install Microsoft Add-ins.

Within Outlook, navigate to Home > All Apps > Add Apps. In the app window, search for BriefCatch, then click on BriefCatch for Outlook:

In the BriefCatch for Outlook window, click Add:
