We understand the importance of protecting confidential legal documents and communications, and we use security controls and data-handling practices designed to safeguard customer information. **BriefCatch Standalone** processes document content locally on the user's device without sending that content to BriefCatch's servers. Content is not stored in persistent application storage or retained after processing. - Document and email content is not retained for subsequent use. - Content is not intentionally recorded in application logs. - BriefCatch personnel do not access customer document or email content as part of normal processing. - Customer content is not used to train AI models or improve BriefCatch's writing algorithms. ### Minimal User Data Logged BriefCatch collects and maintains limited account and operational information needed to provide, secure, and support its services. Depending on the product and account configuration, this may include: - User account information, such as name and email address. - Organization and subscription information. - Application preferences and configuration settings. - Technical and operational information used for authentication, troubleshooting, security, and service reliability. BriefCatch does not log document or email text as part of its normal processing. ### End-to-End Encryption BriefCatch uses industry-standard encryption and security controls to protect information transmitted to and stored within its cloud services. - Encryption in transit: TLS 1.3 is used to protect communications between supported BriefCatch applications and cloud services. - Encryption at rest: AES-256 encryption is used to protect applicable data stored within BriefCatch's cloud infrastructure. These protections help safeguard account information, application data, and content transmitted for processing. Our security practices include access controls, secure development procedures, vulnerability management, and ongoing monitoring and review of our systems. Our software development process incorporates code reviews, testing, and quality assurance activities to help identify and address issues before release.\\ **SOC 2** BriefCatch has successfully completed a SOC 2 Type I examination, providing an independent assessment of the design of its security controls. A SOC 2 Type II examination is currently in progress. **Privacy & Compliance** BriefCatch maintains policies and controls intended to support customer privacy and data protection requirements. BriefCatch and its third-party AI providers **do not** use customer content to train, fine-tune, or improve their underlying AI models. **BriefCatch for Word**  AI components: - **Advanced citation suggestions** (CiteCheck): Provides AI-assisted corrections to improve citation formatting and consistency. - **Citation review and verification** (RealityCheck): Analyzes legal authorities and their use within documents to help identify potential inaccuracies or inconsistencies in how authorities are cited or characterized. - **Interactive AI writing assistant** (BriefChat): A conversational Q&A tool that allows users to ask questions and receive guidance on legal and professional writing, drawing from Ross Guberman's legal-writing expertise and the BriefCatch rule set.
